Maureen Groden, RN and author of When a Loved One Is Dying: Conversations About Care, Connection and Coping

Holyoke VNA and Hospice Life Care is proud to partner with Harmony House, to celebrate and support Maureen Groden, RN at her book signing, When a Loved One Is Dying: Conversations About Care, Connection and Coping,

Maureen Groden has been a hospice nurse and educator for several decades. During her career, Maureen held leadership positions as the Director of Hospice and Palliative Care at several major health care systems, including Holyoke VNA and Hospice Life Care.

In these roles, Maureen was instrumental in leading quality hospice and palliative care teams in the care of patients with serious and terminal illnesses. Maureen was named “Manager of the Year” by The Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts. In addition, the Palliative Care Program received the “Award for Innovation in Palliative Care.”

Maureen has served on numerous committees and conducted dozens of community education programs. She engages the public in discussions on advanced directives, palliative care and hospice. In addition to clinical leadership, Maureen Groden has taught nursing at several local baccalaureate nursing programs.

She co-developed and taught an honors-level course entitled, “How Do We Compassionately Talk About Death?” She has presented widely at conferences on Palliative Care and Hospice and has been a member of several professional health care organizations.

Maureen has developed a passion for helping families navigate our health care system when their loved one has a serious illness. She also wants to help families experience a peaceful end-of-life journey.

Maureen wrote When a Loved One Is Dying: Conversations About Care, Connection & Coping to help readers understand what happens when people are dying and how to care for them.
