Have you had a KINDNESS shown? Pass it on...
'Twas not given for thee alone, pass it on...
Let it travel down the years, let it wipe another's tears...
'til in HEAVEN the deed appears.Pass it on.
Fall Volunteer Training
Hospice Life Care, a program of the Holyoke Visiting Nurses Association, is looking for individuals to join our volunteer program.
Are you interested in helping patients and families in your community make the most of the final months, weeks and days of life? Then becoming a hospice volunteer may be the opportunity for you.
Our hospice volunteers provide a listening ear and companionship to our terminally ill patients and their families; visiting with them in the home and in nursing facilities throughout Hampden and Hampshire Counties. Interested individuals will attend our comprehensive 21-hour training program and will receive monthly support and education throughout their volunteer experience.
We welcome individuals with a variety of interests and backgrounds. We encourage Veterans who wish to visit with Veterans to join our training and we are seeking Reiki practitioners to join our Reiki Team.
Known as the "heart," volunteers are an important part of the hospice team. Our volunteers' dedication to their patients and caregivers is to be a friend and to recognize what is special and unique to each individual.
- Support for patients: This can include visiting, reading, taking walks, writing letters, bringing in music, providing transportation when appropriate, preparing a small meal or holding a hand.
- Respite and support for family members: Providing family members rest by being scheduled to sit with their loved one so that a much needed break can be taken.
- Volunteers can assist with shopping or allow family caregivers the opportunity to take care of necessary errands Family members also appreciate a visit from a compassionate friend who understands what they are going through.
All volunteers have been screened and have a attended a comprehensive, 20-hour training program

"My patient was very talkative and even sang a song for me. We talked and held hands the whole visit"
